Our in-house die casting facility is equipped with 88T to 3000T cold-chamber and hot-chamber machines, supporting aluminum, zinc, and magnesium alloy parts across a wide range of sizes and production volumes.

From small housings and structural components to larger automotive and industrial parts, we support tooling, CNC prototyping services, die casting, secondary CNC machining, inspection, and production delivery within one manufacturing system.

Types of Die Casting Processes at ZH Precision

We use hot-chamber and cold-chamber die casting to match different alloy systems, part sizes, and production requirements. The process is selected based on material, geometry, wall thickness, tooling requirements, and expected production volume.

Hot-Chamber-Die-Casting.webp

Hot-chamber die casting

Hot-chamber die casting is commonly used for zinc and selected magnesium alloys. The injection system is immersed in the molten metal, allowing fast shot cycles and efficient high-volume production.

It is well suited for small to medium-sized parts with detailed features, thin walls, and good surface requirements, such as connectors, brackets, housings, and other precision die cast components.

Cold-Chamber-Die-Casting.webp

Cold-chamber die casting

Cold-chamber die casting is commonly used for aluminum and selected magnesium alloys. Molten metal is ladled into the shot chamber for each cycle before being injected into the die under high pressure.

The process is suitable for a wide range of part sizes, including housings, structural components, automotive parts, and other components that require strength, dimensional consistency, and repeatable production.

DFM Guidelines for Die Casting Parts

Good die casting design helps improve metal flow, reduce porosity and distortion, simplify tooling, and control secondary machining costs. Key factors include wall thickness, draft, ribs, radii, bosses, and machining requirements.

Design ItemEngineering Recommendation
Uniform Wall Thickness Keep wall thickness as uniform as possible and avoid abrupt section changes that can cause uneven cooling and shrinkage.
Draft Angle Design Add sufficient draft on surfaces parallel to the die opening direction to improve part release and reduce die wear.
Rib Design Use ribs to increase stiffness without creating unnecessarily thick sections or excessive material buildup.
Fillet and Corner Radius Avoid sharp internal corners and use suitable radii to improve metal flow and reduce local stress concentration.
Boss and Hole Design Support bosses properly and avoid excessive material around holes to reduce shrinkage and porosity risks.
Machining Allowance Add machining stock only where critical dimensions, sealing surfaces, threads, or precision fits require secondary machining.
Free DFM Review Our engineering team can review part geometry, wall thickness, draft, machining features, and tooling requirements before mold development to identify manufacturing risks early and prepare the design for production.

Surface Finishes for Die Casting Parts

Die cast parts can be finished with anodizing, polishing, sand blasting, tumbling, electropolishing, Alodine, and electroplating based on alloy type and application needs. These finishes improve appearance, corrosion resistance, and surface performance.

Die Casting Parts Quality Control

Our die casting quality system follows ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016, with incoming material inspection, first article inspection, in-process checks, and final inspection applied throughout production.

Casting quality is checked for common defects such as porosity, shrinkage, cold shuts, and flash, while critical dimensions and machined features are verified according to customer drawings. Material verification and process parameter control help maintain consistent quality across repeat production.

Why OEM Customers Choose ZH Precision

We support OEM die casting projects from tooling and sampling through production, secondary CNC machining, inspection, and delivery. Our focus is on controlling manufacturing cost, maintaining stable production schedules, and meeting drawing and quality requirements across repeat orders.

Cost Control

DFM and tooling review help identify unnecessary material, difficult features, and secondary machining requirements before mold production. This helps control tooling investment and unit cost as production volumes increase.

Production & Lead Time

In-house die casting and secondary CNC machining reduce handoffs between suppliers and simplify production scheduling. Prototype validation and production orders can be managed within the same manufacturing workflow.

Quality Control

Production follows ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 quality systems, with incoming material inspection, in-process checks, first article inspection, and final verification based on customer drawing requirements.

What is Die Casting?

Die casting is a metal casting process in which molten metal is injected into a hardened steel die under high pressure. It is commonly used for medium- to high-volume production of parts with complex shapes, thin walls, consistent dimensions, and good as-cast surface quality.

The die may contain one or multiple cavities depending on part design and production volume. Hot-chamber or cold-chamber machines are selected according to the alloy and casting requirements. After the metal fills the cavity and solidifies, the part is ejected, trimmed, and can be further processed with CNC machining, surface finishing, or assembly when required.

Advantages of Die Casting

Complex Geometries: Produces thin walls, ribs, bosses, and integrated features that reduce part count and secondary assembly.

High Production Efficiency: Supports fast cycle times and consistent production output for medium- to high-volume manufacturing.

Dimensional Repeatability: Maintains consistent dimensions across repeat production through stable tooling and controlled casting parameters.

Good Surface Quality: Produces relatively smooth as-cast surfaces that can reduce secondary finishing requirements.

Efficient Material Use: Creates near-net-shape parts with less machining stock and material waste.

Lower Unit Cost at Volume: Reduces per-part cost as production quantities increase and tooling investment is spread across more parts.

Die Casting Applications

Automotive Components: Produces housings, brackets, structural parts, transmission components, and other lightweight metal components for automotive applications.

Electronics & Electrical Parts: Manufactures enclosures, connectors, heat sinks, and protective housings for electronic and electrical equipment.

Industrial Equipment: Supports machine housings, covers, brackets, frames, and functional components requiring strength and dimensional consistency.

Telecommunications Equipment: Produces RRU housings, base-station enclosures, heat sinks, and other thermal management components for communication equipment.

Consumer Products: Manufactures durable metal housings, structural parts, and functional components for appliances, tools, and electronic products.

Medical Equipment: Supports precision housings, brackets, equipment components, and other metal parts manufactured to specified dimensional and quality requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Die casting project costs are mainly determined by mold complexity, part size, alloy material, wall thickness, production volume, and required post-processing. Higher precision requirements, intricate geometries, and additional surface finishes will also affect the final quotation.

Typical die casting defects include porosity, shrinkage, flash, cold shuts, and surface oxidation. These issues are mainly caused by unstable injection speed, improper mold temperature, and poor venting, which can be effectively controlled via optimized DFM and precise process parameters.

We provide a full range of surface treatments for die cast parts, including polishing, sandblasting, anodizing, powder coating, plating, and passivation. Different finishes improve corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and aesthetic appearance for diverse application scenarios.

Standard die casting lead time depends on mold development and production quantity. New mold fabrication usually takes 2–4 weeks, and mass production can be completed within 1–2 weeks according to order volume. Rush orders are available upon request.

Our die casting process maintains stable industrial-grade tolerances. General dimensional tolerance ranges from ±0.1mm to ±0.3mm, and tighter precision can be achieved with secondary CNC machining to meet strict assembly and industrial standards.
